Welcome. The Blue Morpho Center for Transformation in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica is about transforming ourselves, our relationships and the way we live on the planet. We are a school/retreat center and an experiment in intentional community. 

Getting to Blue Morpho Center from Puerto Viejo.

The Blue Morpho Center is named for the giant electric blue butterfly which is a symbol of transformation and of the goddess Venus/Aphrodite.  The Center’s magic is somewhat of a mystery, even to those of us who live here long term.  On its 12 acres and in the jungle it backs up to is a profusion of plant life and wildlife that literally boggles the mind. Those who are aiming to escape the limitations of the mind and the ego’s need to maintain the illusion of control — find  that it is a good thing to have your mind boggled. Nature, Mother Earth, Gaia, however you name her, is present here in  a way that demands that each of us become aware of who we are, as a part of the web of life. There are no soundproof, temperature controlled, rectangular,  sterile box-like apartments to hide away in.  Noisy wildlife is just outside the screened windows. Flocks of raucous parrots often insist on waking us up when they wake up. Occasionally a night monkey drops a coconut on the roof to thunderous effect. The size and colors and bizarre shapes of the insects often inspire awe.

The Center is not a hotel. Rooms and furniture are rustic. There is no television. We do have wifi high speed Internet. (And we notice that what happens on screens is no match for what is going on all around us.)

People who come here tend to want to look deeply into what they will create next in their lives. Opportunities for healing, for exploring, for meditative journeying, for creative play and celebration present themselves daily. If there are areas in your life or abilities that you wish to awaken, you may find yourself drawn here.

Workshops, massage, bodywork, energy work, individual coaching, guided sessions and customized programs to support you in your journey are all available. Nature’s voice speaks loudly and may help guide your choices.

People come here to participate. Except when we are hosting an event, we don’t have “guests.” Instead we welcome people as participants in the community and Center we are creating, even if they are just staying with us for a short time. Everyone picks up after themselves and helps with daily tasks. We take most meals together. We are each other’s entertainment. We make new friends. We discover ourselves newly in community. If you feel a pull, if you are drawn here, know that you are invited. We look forward to welcoming you.
